My Black body double

My Black Body Double (MBBD) is a virtual space for Black folks that find that working with the presence of others virtually is helpful in starting, working on, and completing tasks. While there are other virtual coworking spaces, many do not center neurodivergent folks and their needs and are not Black-only spaces. MBBD centers Black neurodivergent, disabled/chronically ill, trans and queer folks, and provides space for folks to show up and be as they are. Stimming and body movement are welcomed!

Each session is 90 minutes which includes a brief check-in and share about what tasks you might want to work on, and a brief check-out. There are two sessions each month; each month (2 sessions) costs $22 per person. You can attend one or both sessions each month. If you would like to purchase for a friend or Black community member (as a gift card) - click here!

What is a Body Double?
A body double is a person, whether in-person, virtual, or on the phone, that is present and keeps you company as you tackle a task that you want to handle. Your body double is present but doesn’t interfere with your process of working on the task. Your body double may be working on tasks that they want to work on at the same time. Using a body double is a strategy commonly used for people that have differences in accessing motivation to do certain tasks and how they focus while doing certain tasks, such as autistic folks, ADHDers/people with ADHD, and others that may have executive functioning challenges. Many folks find that having someone present while they work on tasks is helpful for getting started, maintaining focus and attention to the task at hand, and lessening anxiety and negative self-talk related to tackling challenging tasks.

Body doubles can be used with tackling a wide variety of tasks - household chores, food preparation, paperwork, organizing and tidying, writing, exercising, eating, making phone calls etc. Join us!
